Random - No Charge

  • A walking tour highlighted by Central Christian Church, the Public Library, Triangle Park and lunch at Alfalfa's (oops, $ needed=optional) in Lexington, Kentucky will_provide exercise of mind and body.
  • From the log cabin display to the general store, you can't leave without learning_something new about how settlers lived in Kentucky at South Central Cultural Center located off the circle in downtown Glasgow, KY: http://www.kyculturalcenter.org/exhibits1.html.  Free_admission last_time I was there.

Golf & Fishing (just a few)

  • Dale Hollow : An oasis in the mountains with cart paths nicer than most roads.  Bring extra balls.  Undulating fairways with immaculate tees and greens.  Pack a lunch too.
  • Wasioto Winds is a links course with 5 places to tee up_and is very long when wet.  Well maintained and managed with a nice clubhouse and knowledgeable staff.  For a quick look at the course (and an almost perfect swing click this: (mute volume beforehand, my bad)
  • Shady Hollow can be hard to find but it's worth it.  Think TPC in central Kentucky.
  • Miniature Golf at the Lexington Ice Center (http://www.lexingtonicecenter.com/) can be a biblical experience too.  Reasonably priced and open April-September but check out the website.
  • Lake Cumberland

Lodging

1.The kids will love the indoor pool at Lake Barkley secluded from the lodge (some call it a short drive) with everything you need.  Great food, etc. but make sure the bridge is open_again_ so cruising thru the elk and bison park is possible.  Bring fishing pole, golf_clubs and cruise up to LBL (Land Between the Lakes) and eat at Patti's.

Antiques

1. You will drive right past Something Olde Antique Mall  in Berea (hint - it's on the right towards town). Enough said.  Have lunch and enjoy a break in The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea off 75.

2.The Olde General Store in Cave City, KY is an experience in patience.  Head through to the back room to the right and bring a truck.  While you're here, check out Dinasaur World's gift shop across the street to see how the other half lives.  Seriously, some of the fossils are rare and unique.

Theatre

1. The Kentucky Repertory's acoustics combined with enthusiastic casts makes for a big bang for_your_ buck BUT  closed.
After enjoying Beegie Adair's trio perform a few years ago, another live concert will not be missed if I can help it.  Also, the summer workshops are fun and hopefully still open to the public at KRT in Horse Cave.

2. The Barn Lot Theatre's volunteer cast with superb dinner is another great_deal.  Take a walk over to the beautiful new courthouse and learn some_history if you are early.
